Maddalena Tray Replenishment Blood Drive
November 12 @ 9:30 am - 3:30 pm
Maddalena Tray’s entrance into this world in February 2017 came with several unforeseen complications. In addition to metabolic acidosis, a condition wherein the amount of acid in the blood is out of balance, Maddalena had possible brain damage and acute liver and renal failure. Maddalena received two liters of blood the night she was born, and more than 40 blood products during her 40-day stay in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Today, Maddalena is doing well. The only specialist she visits on a regular basis is her kidney doctor. Although she was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, her kidney function has improved slightly.
This will be her family’s second replenishment blood drive, which they plan to do every year. “We want to continue to host blood drives on an annual basis in her honor because we know how important and life-changing blood donations can be,” says her mother, Nancy. “Without the blood products that Maddalena received, she may not be in as good of a place as she is today. They saved her life.”
