In the early 1940s, a covered bridge on McDowell Lane crossed Linden Creek near the current location of Little Lake Theatre. During the war, Alcoa processed aluminum in Canonsburg and needed large quantities of water. The covered bridge was demolished during the formation of the reservoir now known as Canonsburg Lake. Two drive-in theaters were also located in this area.
