Student Photography Exhibit coming to the library

The Peters Township High School Photography Classes will exhibit their work in the main lobby of the Peters Township Public Library from March 8 through 22 during library hours. “The Gallery” is a display of hundreds of student photographs from the classes and club at the high school.  An opening reception will be held on Thursday, March 8 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.  All are welcome to attend.

Matted photographs and canvases will be on display. The Photography Club officers include Co-Presidents Emily DeNunzio and Samantha Szewczyk, and Board Members Storie Poness, Jillian Bastyr, Julianna Mankamyer, and Claire Mitchell.

Have you visited Café Lee?

The next time you’re at the library, take a moment and visit Café Lee. It’s on the second floor – an easy ride up the elevator. We’ve added new furniture, so come visit the café, have a cup of coffee and relax! It’s the perfect spot to watch the busy world go by right outside the large corner windows. Our Coloring, Coffee, and Classics for ages 18 and up meets in this room every Wednesday from 9:15 to 10:30 a.m. to spend time coloring while listening to classical music and enjoying a complimentary hot beverage. No registration necessary.

Tour de Fleece on July 9

Each summer cyclists gather to conquer the Tour de France, a three week adventure of dedication, challenges and achieving personal and team goals. Another group of spinners gather in person and in online forums to do the same, but these wheels don’t power bicycles. For the over 7,400 participants of last year’s Tour de Fleece, the spinning wheels are for making yarn!

Members of the Washington Spinners and Weavers Guild will be bringing a little part of the Tour de Fleece to the Peters Township Public Library on Saturday, July 9 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. You will have a chance to see several types of spinning wheels in action and watch the process of turning fiber to yarn. Using the library’s MakerSpace, the group will combine old technology with new by using the a 3-D printer to create an hand-spinning tool called a drop spindle.
