we love ptpl friendsThe Peters Township Public Library does great things every day—but we can’t do those things without the time and effort provided by our generous volunteers!

We welcome both Adult and Young Adult volunteers for a variety of positions. You will have the opportunity to use your current skills, while at the same time developing new skills and giving back to your community.

Adult Volunteers

Used Book Sale

  • Help with sorting donated materials and refilling our Used Book Sale shelves
  • Help with weeding our fiction and nonfiction collections
  • Help with the creation of our soon-to-be online book store

Special Events & Fundraising

  • Plan for annual or semi-annual fundraising ideas
  • Coordinate and assist with mailings
  • Serve on the Novel November Committee
  • Prepare for special events and programs by purchasing refreshments and supplies
  • Serving refreshments during/after special events and large library programs

Library Volunteer

  • Assist with delivering books to Homebound or Assisted Living Facilities
  • “Adopt a Shelf”—General shelf reading, straightening, and dusting in the library
  • Lead a special interest group: Zentangles, Puzzles, Crafts, Movie discussions, Board Games, etc.
  • Pollinator Garden Volunteer/Caring for Indoor Plants

PTPL Foundation Committees

  • The Foundation meets monthly to support the Peters Township Public Library as they open books, doors, and minds in our community. Join one of the Foundation’s Committees and help support the library’s efforts!
Young Adult and Community Service Volunteers

Youth Services Volunteer

  • Assist in preparation for programs; help plan upcoming programs
  • Organize and reshelve the library collection
  • Assist patrons in locating items, requesting information, and navigating the library’s electronic resources (eBooks, eMagazines, etc.)
  • Test “damaged” CDs, DVDs, and Video Games
  • Assist in the technical services department with processing new materials

Special Volunteer Tasks

  • The library always offers large programs that need assistance. We need volunteers to help with the set up and running of these programs
  • Serve on the Youth Advisory Council
    • Meets on the first Saturday of the month, 11-noon (= 1 volunteer hour)
    • Members help plan and organize teen programming and collections

The library participates in the President’s Volunteer Services Awards program. Volunteers can log in their hours of service online to receive this award.
