Links to Coronavirus Resources

March 13, 2020 by Lacey Love

As a public library, the biggest role we can play in response to the emerging COVID-19 threat is sharing trusted sources of information with you.

Below are a list of links we believe will be helpful to you.

  • The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) summary on COVID-19 is being updated constantly

  • The World Health Organization (WHO) has complied a page of myth busting questions and answers regarding the COVID-19 virus

  • For information about COVID-19 in Pennsylvania, visit the PA Department of Health Coronavirus web page

  • This press release from the Allegheny County Health Department provides you their guidance and recommendations locally. For more information on COVID-19, visit www.alleghenycounty.us/coronavirus . If you are not a subscriber to Allegheny Alerts, you can create an account at www.alleghenycounty.us/alerts and subscribe for COVID-19 alerts under the categories of Health Department/Health & Environment. ACHD provides a daily update at 11:00 a.m. via Allegheny Alerts and additional notifications as information becomes available.

  • There is some information available on the Washington County Public Safety Department COVID-19 Information web page.

  • NewsGuard has compiled a list of sources that have advanced inaccurate information about the coronavirus.

  • For information about our area, visit the Peters Township Municipal website

  • For information about the Peters Township School District, visit their PT Health News webpage

Together We Read

February 15, 2020 by Lacey Love

Peters Township Public Library joins nearly 16,000 libraries and thousands of readers across the country in offering the first Together We Read: US digital book club selection. From February 19 to March 4, Peters Township Public Library patrons can enjoy and discuss award-winning author Pat Simmons’ new Lean on Me romance ebook for free with no waitlists or holds. Readers can access the ebook with a valid library card by visiting waggin.overdrive.com or by downloading the Libby app, and then participate in an online discussion.

The Together We Read: US digital book club connects readers in America through public libraries with the same ebook at the same time. This two-week program only requires a WAGGIN library card to get started. Together We Read: US is facilitated by Rakuten OverDrive, the leading digital reading platform for ebooks, audiobooks and magazines, and creator of the award-winning Libby app.

Lean on Me tells the story of Tabitha Knicely, a woman overwhelmed with sorrow and exhaustion caring for her beloved great-aunt, whose dementia is getting worse. When her neighbor Marcus Whittington accuses Tabitha of elder neglect, he doesn’t realize how his threats to have Aunt Tweet taken away add to Tabitha’s pain. Then Marcus gets to know the exuberant elderly lady and sees up close how hard Tabitha is fighting to keep everything together. Tabitha finds herself leaning on Marcus more and he’s becoming more than happy to share her burdens.

During Together We Read, Lean on Me can be borrowed from participating libraries in the US. The ebook can be read without waitlists or holds on the award-winning Libby app on all major computers and devices, including iPhone®, iPad®, Android™ phones and tablets, and Chromebook™. Through Libby, readers can also “send to Kindle®” [US only]. The title will automatically expire at the end of the lending period, and there are no late fees. Visit waggin.overdrive.com or download Libby to get started.

Lean on Me is published by Sourcebooks. More information can be found at TogetherWeRead.com.
